The V&A Waterfront is a vibrant 123-hectare mixed-use destination, renowned as one of Africa’s most popular cultural and historical hubs. Nestled by a historic working harbor and framed by the iconic Table Mountain, it offers a cosmopolitan blend of experiences, including leisure, shopping, and exclusive entertainment. The site features prime residential and commercial properties, boasting breathtaking views of the ocean, city bowl, and mountain peaks.
During peak season, the V&A Waterfront attracts up to 100,000 visitors daily. Over the past twelve years, it has contributed R259.1 billion to the South African economy, with a cumulative contribution of over R227 billion to the provincial GGP since 2002. Retail trade sales saw a remarkable 19% increase in 2014, marking four consecutive years of growth. By the end of that year, total annual visitors reached 24 million.
While the V&A Waterfront is South Africa’s top attraction for international visitors, they represent only 23% of the total footfall. Local visits surged to 63%, with 14% of visitors coming from upcountry. The site is home to 22 official landmarks, adding to its significance in South Africa’s historical legacy. Jointly owned by Growthpoint Properties Limited and the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF), represented by the Public Investment Corporation Limited (PIC), the V&A Waterfront was developed by Transnet Limited, with commercial trading commencing in November 1990.
