Our Journey

Tri-Star Construction was established in 1979 and has grown into a successful, sustainable, and reputable construction company.

1979: Tri-Star was founded.
1997: Derek Wheals and Billy McNeil acquired the business, expanding into construction.
1998: Tri-Star Housing was established to service multi-unit housing.
2006: A plant and equipment operation was established due to strong growth in construction.
2009: Tri-Star created its own Health & Safety department and expanded into Cape Town.
2012: Sold 26% of shares to Ba-Akhi Investments, promoting empowerment.
2017: Tri-Star Painting and Renovations was sold in a BBBEE transformation deal.
2018: Developed a new corporate head office in Centurion and established an EXCO board.
2020: Ba-Akhi Investments increased shareholding to 51%, achieving Level 1 BBBEE status.
2023: Expanded into Africa, establishing Tri-Star DR Congo to support one of the world’s fastest-growing copper mines.
